ThermoMaven Wireless Meat Thermometer Review: No App, No Problem
I’ve lost a couple of meat thermometers to cleaning. The probe and the electronics were one piece, and eventually water got where it shouldn’t. That’s the problem I was trying to solve when I bought the ThermoMaven, and it solved it.
The probes are easy to wash
The probes are separate from the base unit, so I can wash them properly without worrying about ruining the electronics. That alone makes it a better thermometer than the ones I’ve had before.
No app to depend on
The ThermoMaven has its own display, so it doesn’t need a phone app. That was a big selling point for me. Plenty of “smart” kitchen gadgets stop working well once the company stops updating the app, and this one doesn’t have that risk. I check the temperature on the device and get on with cooking.
How it performs
It works really well. It comes with two probes, so I can track two pieces of meat at once, and it does the main job of a meat thermometer: telling me when food is done without cutting into it.
Who should buy it
If you want something simple and durable that’ll still work in five years, this is a great pick. If you specifically want temperature graphs and alerts on your phone, look for an app-based model instead.
Verdict
The washable standalone probes and app-free design fix the two things that frustrated me most about other thermometers. I’d buy it again.
